April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and taking piano lessons which ignited her interest in music writing. The first song she wrote was called Different, which she wrote at 12 years of age. When April was 14 years old, she spent long hours developing song ideas as well as perfecting the song. Then she began to take excursions to write with her father, who lived in NY as well as LA. The month also saw her include other related topics for some of her friends dealing with issues such as bullying by peers and teens who commit suicide through the songs Take my Hand. Lockhart is a popular figure and is a lifestyle blogger with the popular Ilia Clean Beauty brand. She has a disability that is a component of her identity, but it's not the entire of the picture. Lockhart doesn't deny her disability on her Instagram account, but she does not make it the main focus of it. What's the message? The message? That we have many different aspects, that our physical and identity selves are not all that they seem. Lockhart says in a video interview with Lockhart via video "I do not believe that disability will define my character. It's not my intention to influence disabilities because I've got plenty to offer." My everyday life isn't dependent on it. I live my normal day-to-day life and discover my own solutions to problems. It's also part of me so I think it's important to talk about. The journey of self-acceptance that Lockhart has taken is one that will last for a long time, and she can be a role model for this purpose. Yet, she confesses having moments of feeling uneasy about her appearance, and the clothes with arms. She now wears any outfit she wishes and shares pictures on her Facebook page with pride. The self-love she talks about is a journey. It's hard to say if you'll ever reach the end. The same is true for everybody regardless of their levels of anxiety. I think it is important to surround yourself with people who can really understand the person you are.
